Scrooge Among Us

I’m quite certain Dickens knew a few Scrooges in his day, certainly enough to give some real-life inspiration to his writing. But how about this guy, alleged Craigslist killer?

I had to ask myself, how do you even make that face with your mouth? I worked on it for a minute as I looked at his picture (FoxNews.com): couldn’t even come close (and caused myself some pain).

It must have taken years to form that scowl. What a face!

And then these national headlines listed at the top of Newzjunky.com this morning:

My conclusion? Some people out there need a visitation from a Ghost. A Holy one.

This is your friendly reminder that, if you’re a Christian, the Holy Spirit resides in you. Not only should we be praying for the salvation and welfare of Scrooges in our society – that they would be haunted by heaven – but we must recognize we’re often Scrooge’s first encounter with the Holy Ghost.

Go haunt someone today. The Ghost of Christmas Present may just want to heal someone’s past to provide them a better future with your present. ch:

Make Friday Blue.

christopher hopper gifts of water mission

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. -Jesus (Matthew 6:19-21)

So what’s our family’s big news?

Today, Black Friday, millions of people are buying hundreds of millions of dollars worth of items that will not likely last more than a few years. Some more than a few hours.

While I’m all in to buying gifts for the ones I love, I also long to make scripture practical.

So we’re asking for your help.

Buy something that you can store up in heaven.

Buy someone’s life.

The Hopper Family has partnered with Gifts Of Water (Water Missions International) to create our own team, and we’d like you and your family to join us in purchasing pure water for communities in Uganda. $10. That’s it.

We get nothing for this. No disclaimers needed. Except maybe the recognition we get from heaven for doing a very small act of kindness that results in keeping people we will never meet alive and healthy.

Let us know if you’re “in” via comment below, then go donate on our team page here. Then please tell your FaceBook and Twitter friends that you joined Team Hopper and ask them to do the same. We’re trying to raise $2,000 by Christmas! ch:

UPDATE: 11.29.2010 – Over $1,400 raised for our first community! Check out our new team page here.

Black Friday: Shopping or Turkey?

shopping_or_turkey

The way I see it, you have one of two choices on Black Friday. Either 1.) you feel the need to run out of the house screaming, only to find yourself fighting through crowds of people who all share your frantic motivation to get out of the house, only to find themselves surrounded by…well…you! Or 2.) you are staying home to clean, and force-feed yourself leftovers, figuring out newfangled ways to prepare turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing that won’t induce vomiting (which subsequently option 1. gets you out of…although many people vomit over fast food).

So, which is it? Or, do you have some tertiary option with which to enlighten us on?

For me, I’m home with the kids and bro & sis in-law watching Pixar’s “Up,” while Jennifer, her Mom, and Amber are out for coffee. Yes, I’m still in my PJs, unshowered, unshaven, and suffering from a NyQuil hangover. ch:
